| A young Brunali male, Icheb was born on a homeworld less than one lightyear away from a Borg trans-warp conduit. In the interest of salvaging their lifestyle and advancing their civilization without the Borg descending upon them and assimilating their technology, Icheb's parents altered his DNA to include a genome that would produce a pathogen lethal to the Borg. When they believed the time was right, they shot him at the trans-warp conduit as bait, which the Borg took. The virus devastated an entire Cube; all but five adolescent drones still in their maturation chambers were killed, but when the Borg discarded the lost Cube instead of recovering and re-assimilating its survivors into the Collective, the virus could not spread farther from there. | |||
| The adolescent drones were stranded in space for the following three and a half years, with neither memory of their previous lives, nor the ability to repair the massive Cube. Without having reached full maturation, the drones were incapable of assimilating passing starships, and all attempts at adding to their collective resulted in death. They essentially drift until they are discovered by the USS Voyager, and after a struggle in which one of the drones dies, they join her crew and leave the Cube behind. With the help of Seven of Nine, Icheb recovers his individuality and even goes on to become a contributing member of the crew with aspirations of enrolling in Starfleet Academy upon their return to the Alpha Quadrant. | |||
